Life: Get Exactly What You Want

You know that saying, “be careful what you ask for because you just might get it”?  Well just the other day I was thinking about that saying and what I realize is that sometimes we get exactly what we ask for but we either don’t recognize it or we don’t know what to do with it or how to act when it shows up. It could be money, a new car, a significant other, etc. Too many times we pray, “God send me a man/woman” but when they show up we either don’t embrace them or if we do embrace them, it’s only for a brief moment then we discard them for whatever reason. The reality is if you don’t take the time to really think about the things that you want and be specific about the details, you won’t recognize it when it shows up.

Everybody is searching for something, some more diligent than others, but the fact still remains that we all want things (a new car, a new home, a spouse, to be loved, a better paying job, more money, better health, etc, etc, etc.). But unless you take the time to think about the details and really focus on what that will look like and the impact it will have on your life, you could very well miss the opportunity to get what you want or if you do get it, you risk misusing or abusing it. The Law of attraction says "like attracts like" and "what you think about you bring about" because you are on that frequency. So whatever you ask for you will get but unless you take the time to envision what you want, it will show up but just not in the form or magnitude you expected. Confused? Don’t be. Ok here is an example. Let’s say you want more money in your life and all you say is “Lord send me more money or make me rich”. Well “more money” and “rich” are so vague. More money could be $1 or $20. Rich could be having millions, but it could also be having more friends, being more popular, or just having enough to pay your bills. Or let’s say you ask for a spouse, “Lord send me a good man/woman”. Again a “good” man/woman is so vague. Good could be someone who is law abiding, has some sense of values and a pretty decent person over all, but they lack the ability to fulfill your desires and could be self-centered and have no clue how to please you.

The universe/God will use their interpretations of what you asked for based on your life – how you live, the experiences you have had thus far or your definition of “being rich” or with the men/women you have had in your life because that is what you think about. I once heard a story about a woman who grew up in a home where her mom was physically abused by the men in her life. Her mom kept going from one bad relationship to another.  When the woman grew up she told herself she would never be with an abuser, however she too found herself experiencing the same things with the men in her life that her mom experienced. Why is that? The answer is, it is because she focused on the negative experiences she saw her mom endure and she brought it to herself. Every guy she dated treated her the exact same way her mom was treated.  Believe it or not, most times than not people don’t think about what they want and if they do, they don’t do so in detail. Instead, they think about what they don’t want – which is what has already manifested in their lives. Unfortunately, because they think about what has already happened, they do so in detail which lays the foundation for all their future experiences. As a result they keep having the same experiences with money, their relationships, etc. over and over again.

The universe/God will give you what you ask for. If you are vague, you will get what you’ve always gotten, but if you give specific details, then you will get that. The fact is the universe/God needs specific details in order for it to manifest in the form you want it to be. Yeah I know we all believe that God knows everything and therefore He can read between the lines and give you what you want. Well news flash, while He is all knowing, He also only operates out of the desires of your heart. So if you don’t even know what it is you want, how can you expect him to give it to you? Think about it. While God desires to give you good things, He is not going to push/force anything on you. He gave you free will, that means He gave you the ability to make choices. He allows you to decide whether or not you want to serve Him and to live a life pleasing to Him or if you want to do your thing which may not be so pleasing to Him.  He does not force His will on you so He won’t venture to push things on you if you are not clear on what you want.

So if you ask to be rich or for a good man/woman, then you need to be clear what it is you are asking for. Take some time to really think about what it is you are asking for. Be very specific on what that will look like. If it’s money you want, then how much money do you want and don’t just focus on the money but focus on the things you will buy with the money. If you are asking for a spouse, then be specific about what they will look like physically, their personality, their purpose in your life, etc. The more details you add the better chance you will have to recognize the things you ask for when they show up. What you want is very attainable, the answer is in the details. I’m just saying. I got issues – what about you?)i(

Gay Rights Equals Human Rights

Recently, in what is being deemed a “landmark” decision, the Supreme Court ruled against the banning of same sex marriage in all 50 states. Up until the ruling, there were 14 states who had bans in place on same sex marriage and only about a third of the other states openly allowed the union of same sex couples.  While the decision was not unanimous, it was close enough to render that the justices now see the rational in allowing the ban to be lifted. It was a decision that provoked dissension across the country. Just about everyone has an opinion on the subject. Both local and social media buzzed with both support for and against the decision. Needless-to-say, the gay community is elated with the news and many shared that it was a decision that was long overdue. To that end, many participated in group marriages across the country the following day after the ruling. Still others would go so far as to draw a parallel correlation between their struggle and the struggle of African Americans.  A statement which was not embraced by many in the African American community.

Among other things the ruling seemed to provoke the unveiling of individuals who until now their sexual orientation was not readily know, at least not to me anyway. Sure there are those who exude a certain feminine side, or like I like to say, have a little sugar in their tank, but that is not always a dead giveaway as there are some feminine looking guys who are living pretty normal heterosexual lives. Perhaps it’s just that they have not yet been outed. What I found interesting about this whole thing is the slew of actions people took in protest after the ruling.  I saw a post on Facebook where a pastor said he would quicker set himself on fire than perform a same sex marriage. And then there were the group of employees at a courthouse who resigned from their jobs in protest of the ruling.  Others resorted to launching anti-gay campaigns on social media and released a lot of “God” condemnations and anti-gay posts.

What these people seem to fail to realize is that with or without the ruling people were living their lives as they saw fit. The only thing this ruling did was making it legal for them to get married. What they also failed to realize is that this was a social issue that was addressed and not a moral issue. In my opinion the ban on same sex marriage was an infringement on an individual’s right to choose. Just as banning abortion also infringes on a woman’s right to choose. It’s not so much about the “sin” as it is about a person’s right to choose.  Sure my theory seems to be blown out the water by Chief Justice John Roberts’ statement in dissent. In his prepared statement Chief Roberts said, " If you are among the many Americans - of whatever sexual orientation - who favor expanding same-sex marriage, by all means celebrate today's decision, but do not celebrate the Constitution. It had nothing to do with it."
Well I prefer to differ, after all isn’t part of their job as

justices to rule on cases based on whether or not an action is a violation of the Constitution? How can he then say it had nothing to do with the constitution? If that is the case, then what was the basis for their ruling? The constitution afford all Americans the right to pursue happiness and discourages discrimination by blocking laws that would otherwise impede on our right to choose. There is the notion that the government and religion are separate entities, however at times it is clear that a lot of our laws are based on religious belief which also sets the tone for moral and social standards. It is the moral religious standing that would prevent same sex marriages. I say that because many have quoted that “God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” in their argument against same sex relationships. Yet the very act of depriving couples of the same sex to marry impedes their basic human rights – the right to choose. If you really thought about it objectively, who in society is being hurt by such unions? I offer that by banning same sex marriages, the government was taking on the moral role of God who is the judge, jury, and executioner for all moral infractions.

I have my own views on gay relationships but I know enough to know that it is not my place to tell grown folks what they can and can’t do. I am sure like me, you also have heterosexual friends who are living a life that is an abomination to God’s word, be it a lifestyle that is filled with drugging or boozing, prostitution, lying, stealing, fornication or anything that goes against the ten commandments. Yet you don’t feel the need to put them on blast on social media. What makes this portion of the population any different? While I may not agree with their lifestyle, I whole heartedly support their right to choose because in the end, that is what makes this country so great. It’s why many people abandon their own country to move to America to pursue the American dream. A dream that would not, could not materialize in their oppressing country which limit their right to choose.  It’s easy to point a finger at anything that goes against your own beliefs when it is a sin that you are not committing, but what about your sins? Who is keeping track of that? The best way to win people over is to model a lifestyle that shows them what they are doing wrong. When Jesus was among us, he hang with the sick and sinners so that he could teach and show them the way His Father sent him to reveal. Who I’m I to think myself better than Jesus? You can’t make people do or say what you want them to do or say no matter how well intended.  All you can do is pray that their spiritual eyes and ears will be awaken and that they make the change before it is too late.

I don’t know how this will end, but I do know it’s far from over. I have no doubt that we have not heard or seen the last of this and it’s only a matter of time before the next chapter in the fight for gay rights is written. Until then I’ll just sit back and watch the consequences as they unfold. Say what you want about social issues and/or moral issues, but when it comes to God’s issues no human can withstand his wrath or his judgement. I’m just saying – I got issues. What about you?)i(

Father’s Day/Mother’s Day – Not Gender Specific

Yesterday we celebrated Father’s Day. As always, I wished all
the single mother’s I know a happy Father’s Day. Some were receptive and gave the usual “thank you” in response. Yet there were a few who reminded me that they were not fathers.  As I browsed through my social media home page I came across a few posting by both genders which seemingly criticized the practice of wishing happy Father’s Day to single mothers. As I read each post, I found the reasoning or rational offered for the denouncement interesting.  A few offered that while they were single moms, they were not fathers and already had a day which celebrated/honored them. One person made a reference to single fathers who were raising their child(ren) on their own and offered that these single fathers would never say “I am a great mother” on Mother's day. While that may or may not be true, the fact is everyone has their opinion on why they would or would not celebrate their accomplishments as a single parent on the opposite gender day.  As I pondered this issue, one question came to mind - is Father’s Day/Mother’s Day really gender specific?

To answer that question I looked at what Biblical principles teaches me as well as my own personal experience on the subject to analyze my rational/reason why I give props to mothers on Father’s Day and vice versa.  To help you better understand my view it is important that you know that I subscribe to the notion of traditional gender specific roles meaning I believe that men and women have specific roles that they should fill in relationships as well as child rearing and that a void is created when they fail to fulfill those roles.   So when applied to mothers and fathers, I believe that they both are responsible for specific things in the raising of a child. Women were created and wired to be nurturers, just as men were created and wired to be providers and protectors among other things. However their experiences and upbringing either enhances or deters it.

Normally when these two roles exist in a child’s life you have a harmonious existence where each party pull their weight and there is no strain or cross over. Everyone knows what is expected of them and they operate accordingly.  The mother cares for the child(ren) and the home and the father provides financial stability and protection for his family. While disciplining of the child(ren) falls under the mother’s role, there are times when the father’s input becomes necessary.

The issue then arises when one of these roles is missing from the equation. As a nation it seems like it has become the norm for the man to be the missing component from the equation, however it can just as easily be the woman that is missing in action (MIA).  Naturally the absence of a parent does not dissolve or void the role they play in the child’s life. As a result the remaining parent must now step in and fill both roles. If it is the man that is MIA, the woman must now assure the role of the provider and protector as well as continue to perform her role as the nurturer, home keeper, and disciplinarian.  Likewise if it’s the woman that is MIA, then the man must now assume the role of the nurturer, home keeper, and disciplinarian as well as continue to perform his role as the provider and protector.  This dual role can be further complicated if there is no family support in play. While each role in and of itself can be both time consuming and exhausting, coupled together they can be downright difficult to accomplish effectively. Mainly because it was not meant for one person to assume both roles.

The thing is, when done right, there are literally tons of side effects of being a single parent including but not limited to the lack of a social life – been there, done that.  However many have done it and very successfully I might add.  So forgive me if I feel the need to give kudos to those who have demonstrated that they have the staying power to perform both roles, sometimes to their own detriment.  Giving a single parent kudos for being both the nurturer and the provider for their child(ren) is no way a signal that I am trying to diminish the fact that the child(ren) has a biological father somewhere out there and the key words here are “somewhere out there”. So yes, I agree that women cannot literally be a “father” because that word is gender specific just as “mother” is gender specific.  However, they do assume the responsibilities associated with the role of a father in the absence of the father and vice versa. Therefore it’s okay to say good job when they are forced to step up and fill the role of the missing parent. I’m just saying – I got issues. What about you?)i(

Made in America – No longer Valid

When it comes to discounted merchandise, Walmart is my “go to” place hands down. From food to everyday products, there is where most of my money goes. My pastor once said that if you want to know where your loyalty lies, look at your check book registry. Well mines is flooded with Walmart entries. I shop so often at Walmart, I should have stocks in the company – lol. So naturally when I was looking for an inexpensive cellphone service plan, Walmart was my first choice. I was excited to discover that they offered a “bring your own device” plan through StraightTalk which allowed me to keep my old cell phone. I don’t know about you but the thought of getting a new phone terrifies me.  I mean the thought of having to learn the new features and how to program things including adding contacts is more than I am willing to undertake anytime soon. Besides, I’ve had this phone like forever. I can work it in my sleep. Shoot, there are still features on this phone that I have yet to discover let alone use. Yes, keeping my same phone was definitely a plus, not to mention that I was able to keep my same carrier too. Fact is I was spending less per month with StraighTalk for more options than I did when I was directly linked to Verizon.

So what’s my issue? Oh I’m so glad you asked. It started a few months ago when I enrolled in their auto-refill option on line. They offer a $2.50 discount a month when you enroll in auto-refill. Okay, so there was one month that my credit card was maxed out and I didn’t know if I would be able to pay it down by the time my cellphone payment was due, which was on the 4th of the month. So I did the only logical thing I knew how to do which was to unroll from auto-refill to prevent any extra charges etc. Fortunately as the universe would have it, I was able to cover the debts on my card so I re-enrolled in auto-refill two days before the bill was due.  At first they honored the $2.50 discount but then on the 6th they took it back and charged me $46.78 instead of the initial $44.17 I usually paid. I called customer service to find out why they reneged on the $2.50 discount and was given the run around. At first they said that it was a system error and that I should not have gotten the discount because I “was not enrolled in auto-refill during the promotional period.” Confused as to what the “promotional period” was I quickly pointed out that my credit card was only removed from the account for a few days and I had re-entered it before the due date so I don’t see what the issue was. I figured they could appreciate my diligence to ensure the payment was not declined but not so. In fact the more I spoke the more I got the impression that the reps I spoke to cared less about the “why” than they did about collecting the money.  I mean it was like talking to a brick wall, well not really, but close.

Then it was that the promotion had expired. Regardless of their excuses, their responses were curt, harsh and at times, downright abrasive. Maybe it was their accent or tone, either way they came off rude to me. I would later learn that I’m not the only one who feels this way as I saw some post on their Facebook page which confirms my assessment of their behavior towards me.  It was like they were reading a script and no matter what I said I got the same response, no deviation – “that is the price, sorry”.  Asking to speak to a supervisor yielded no better result.  So after speaking to several different people, including a supervisor, who also appeared to care less about my situation or why I unenrolled from the program, I decided to ask for their corporate office phone number. After being on place on hold for what seemed like an eternity, I was given the companies email address but it turned out to be the website for TracFone Wireless, Inc. Further prompting for a phone number or a mailing address was countered with only that the company was located in Miami Florida. It was obvious that I was not going to get anywhere so I decided to cut my losses and just let it go. The good news is I was re-enrolled in auto-refill and although the rep said the promotional period had expired he also reassured me that I would get the discount next month so I should see that $44.17 again going forward – go figure.

Ok so fast forward to recent events. I went off the grid for about three weeks.  A few days into my solitude I discovered that I didn’t have any service (guess I had traveled outside my service area), but that’s okay as I was using Wi-Fi to play my games on Facebook and check email and I welcomed the silence. When I finally decided to emerge and reconnect with friends and family I discovered that while I was off the grid my credit card was compromised so my bank shut it down to prevent any further fraudulent charges. Good thing I had the mindset to let them know ahead of time of my plans to go off the grid. Contact with my bank further revealed that I wouldn’t get a replacement card until 7 to 10 business days. Remembering that my card was tied to my cellphone auto-refill I asked the bank rep if they would honor any auto charges that were in place on the old card to which I was told no.  So I had no choice but to reach out to a friend for help, which she gladly obliged even before I promised to drop a check in the mail to cover the expense.

So today I sat down to write that check but needed to know how much to make it out for. I logged into my StraightTalk on-line account to get that information. To my dismay I discovered that the charge was for $49.32 – the most I have ever been charged since being a StraightTalk customer. I mean this is a $45/month plan after all.  I also noticed that they had the state associated with the credit card on file as California even though the zip code was clearly Florida which is where my friend lives.  Feeling sure this was a simple error that can be cleared up in one phone call I called customer service. I ended up speaking to at least six different people in between hold times. I had to keep repeating myself over and over again to no avail.  I kept being told that the reason I got charged that much was because I was no longer enrolled in the auto-refill program, I kept telling them I’ve been outside the auto-refill program before and never got assessed that much.

You would think I would have learned my lesson from before. I guess you can say I have amnesia. Frustrated I asked for a supervisor who, like the previous reps, was just as abrasive, but unlike the others, she now was quick to point out that the taxes assessed to my account was based on the state my card was registered to. Huh? Are you kidding me? My phone is in Georgia, my address is listed in Georgia and the state my friend’s card is connected to is a Florida address. Obviously they were assessing me California taxes. Convinced that this was just a simple accounting error - that I was being assessed a higher tax rate based on the erroneous California listing - I pushed forward with my argument. Only to be countered with in an elevated tone “there is no error. That is the correct tax amount”. Feeling beat I simply stated the obvious. “I can see that you are not going to try and help me. All I want is for you to honor my enrollment in the auto-refill program since it was not my fault I was de-enrolled.”  She responded that there was nothing she could do for me and that only the refund department could do that. A little ray of hope lifted in my mind’s eye and quickly asked to be transferred to that department.

By now I’ve been on the phone for about 45 minutes.  After a substantial hold time I was greeted by someone named Mary.  It was obvious she had not been briefed on the situation so after confirming that she was in the “refund department” I shared with her my issue. Unfortunately, she was just as abrupt and harsh as her other counter parts but I was determined to get to the bottom of why my bill was so high.  It became apparent that she was not going to try to help me even though I shared that my card was blocked by my bank for fraudulent charges and was in no way my fault and that I tried to remedy the situation as quickly as possible by having a friend pay the bill on my behalf before the due date. Not sure why they tried to process the payment two days before the due date, but by all account I had made good on the payment. She too gave me the same excuse about the taxes assessed were associated with the state the credit card’s address was issued to which made no sense to me especially since, again my billing address and state of usage is Georgia, which I gladly told her. To which she responded that it was their policy. That followed by a slew of policy quotes and ended with a suggestion that I go read the agreement and policy statement on the website.    At this point I knew for sure I was not going to get anywhere with her so I asked her where she was located. She avoided my question by saying it was not important where she was and that it was not relevant, but I persisted in asking. She eventually admitted that she was in the Philippines but it did not affect her ability to answer my questions because the policy was the same everywhere.
She also offered that their corporate office was based in Miami however when asked she declined to give their contact phone number.  By this time I am fit to be tied so I asked for a refund of the entire month and she said it was not refundable, to which I broke out in a hilarious laugh followed by “why I’m I not surprised.” I then said I was going to write a detail letter to her corporate office detailing my dissatisfaction with the service I was receiving and her inability to give me clear cut information that made sense about the taxes being assessed to my account. To my surprise she hung up while I was still speaking.  Wow.

Before I could redial the number I got an automatic call from the survey line. I had forgotten that at the beginning of the call I had opted to do a brief survey at the end of the call.  “Great”, I thought. “I can give them some feedback on this Mary person.”  Of course I held nothing back and when asked if I would recommend StraightTalk to my friends and/or family member on a scale of 0 to 10 with “0” being very unlikely and “10” being very likely, I chose “0”.  Upon completing the survey my phone service was disconnected. I called back straight talk from another phone and was placed on hold for an extended amount of time. I hung up and called back several times. Each time the rep would put me on hold. Meanwhile I kept turned my StraightTalk phone off and on several times to see if service was restored – it was not. The last time I called in to customer service I was in the middle of speaking with the rep when the call was disconnected. I immediately called back. While on hold with the new rep, the other rep from the dropped call called me back. I clicked over and thanked her for calling me back. She went on to tell me that based on their records my phone was on line, but it wasn’t.  It took some time, including me turning my phone off and on again and being placed on hold for extended periods before service was eventually restored.

So I saw the StraighTalk page on Facebook and decided to make a comment about my most recent encounter. Someone responded to my post and asked me to send an inbox message or click on a link so they can help me. I did both. The chat link turned out to be a waste of time as I was limited to only 400 characters (not words) which greatly affected my ability to clearly share my issue.  The inbox message got responded to by someone who persisted to tell me that my phone was not deactivated today because she could not see any records where it had been. She said that it probably failed to load when I added the new plan. Interesting since there was no new plan. All I did was pay for 30-day service, the equivalent of loading time to a phone and that was four days ago. Any interruption in service should have occurred at the time of the payment not four days later.  Think about it, I had service all along and only lost service today after my encounter with “Mary”.

Bottom-line is this, in a time when tons of Americans are out of work and the economy is struggling to make a comeback, I find it interesting that Walmart would promote a phone service for a company that is based in the Philippines no less.  Makes you wonder how many more services they offer, including cell service, that is based in some other country and not America. What ever happened to home grown and putting American’s to work? Say what you want about Americans but I still believe that when it comes down to the wire, we are still the most compassionate people out there. Sure there are those that are driven by greed and yet others who will sell their soul for the almighty dollar. However the fact still remains that in America, the customer is always right and when faced with the choice to help a customer and retain their business by any means necessary, we still hold the record for that one.  So Walmart, it you want to allow StraightTalk to continue to provide phone service to Americans, the least you can do is provide full disclosure  - that this is not an American based company and all the revenues generated is filtered out to another country and does not benefit or support America. I don’t know about you but I prefer for the money I spend to stay here in America. I’m just saying. I got issues – what about you? )i(

Multi-Level Marketing Support - Can We Show Some Unity?

Several years ago, while looking for ways to make some extra money, I came across an opportunity with a company that uses tea tree oil and/or it’s derivatives as its key ingredient in its products.  I had actually heard about this company years ago while working at the local mental health department on the island. The then director’s husband had invited me to a presentation at their home. At the time I was young and didn't see the value in the investment. So when I saw it again almost 10 years later, I jumped at the opportunity to join. After all the company has been around for a long time and I couldn't help but think how well off I would have been had I gotten in years before.  As a member I was offered discounts on everyday items I purchased and if I got others to join, I would get a percentage of their purchases every month. I was also required to spend a certain amount of money per month to ensure paid compensation, thus I enrolled in their auto shipment program.  As promising as the opportunity was it was short lived as it was difficult to find clients to sign up for the program as most people I knew preferred walking into a store to pick up their items. That and the fact that the cost of the items were a little more than the items in the store.

Not deterred, I continued to seek out other opportunities to supplement my income. A few years after the previously shared opportunity fell through I heard about an opportunity to gain residual income by switching my power company. This was just after the deregulation of electricity.  The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued an order which required utility providers to open their transmission lines to competitors. There was a mad frenzy here in Georgia to sign up clients by newly formed vendors. My husband at the time and I thought it was a great opportunity to make some extra money. Once again the requirements were to join by paying a registration fee, get at least five (5) of our friends and/or family members to switch their utility provider to the new vendor and if we also switched our service over, it would count as one of the five required accounts. Since my ex-husband wanted to have his own shares we decided to join up separately. As a result of our efforts, we would receive monthly payments which was a small percentage of everyone’s bill once they paid their bills including our own, thus generating residual income.  Seems simple enough right? Well not so much.

In both scenarios I reached out to some of my family members and friends in the Atlanta area and presented my sales pitch. In the tea tree oil case I was successful in signing up about four people, but after a month or so they resigned claiming it was “too expensive” and they could not find anyone to join to make it profitable for them to stay a member.  In the utility case I was not successful in getting anyone to switch their utility to the new vendor even though there was no cost associated in the switch, they would have no interruption in service, and the cost of their BTU/Watts would actually decrease in some cases if not remain the same.  My pleas to help me seemingly fell on deaf ear.  Thinking it would help if they knew, as a part of my presentation I shared that by switching their utility provider they would actually be helping me as I would get a small percentage of their payment monthly. It was money they were already spending anyway. Why not help me out in the process?  I also shared that they too could join the company and recruit their own customers and thus be able to get a percentage of those sales.  The answer was a resounding “no”. I had one family member promise she would switch but never did. When I finally caught up with her she indicated that she was “just real busy but would eventually get around to it.”  She never did.  Maybe I should have omitted that little bit of information about me benefiting from them, but I am a full disclosure kind of person. Besides, they would find that out should they decide to work the business end of the deal.

In looking at the presentation of both networking or multi-level marketing opportunities, which appeared to be a pyramid scheme/structure – meaning you advance by recruiting others and built your financial portfolio on the backs of everyone else they brought in – if you recruited someone who was inactive you pretty much were stuck and could not advance.  From what I could tell looking at the top performers all the way up to the president and founder of the company, who by the way were making big bucks, the demographic make-up was predominantly the same – Caucasian.  Now I’m not playing the race card, I’m just trying to make a point.  From what I can tell, from my personal experience, every other race in the world support their own individually as well as collectively except black people. Other races/nationalities that migrate to America stick together - they promote and support each other both individually and collectively. They open businesses and bring their family members over to help run the business. You know I’m telling the truth. Who owns and operates the majority of gas stations here in America? Who has the dry cleaning businesses, who has the hair and nail shops, and who has the landscaping businesses? Take a moment to really thinking about what I just said and I guarantee you a certain race flashed before your mind’s eyes.

What do black people own? Sure there are a few “Mom and Pop” establishments but you would be hard pressed to find any of those businesses I just mentioned that are black owned. Why is that? Again from my experience it is because black don’t knowingly support black.  It’s more convenient for them to go to work for someone else just to make enough to get by. When faced with an opportunity to own their own or support one of their own, for some strange reason they fall short. Why is that? I don’t know the real true answer to that question because everyone has their own agenda and there could be a number of reasons why that is, i.e., service, product, location, etc. However, I can offer one reason why I believe that is. To me, the most obvious reason is they don’t like to see their own people come up.   They say they do, but their actions are not where their mouth is. When given the opportunity to show or give support to their own individually and/or collectively they miss the mark.

Okay, you still don’t agree with me? Then tell me this. Why would anyone turn down an opportunity to help a friend especially when they are going to spend the money on that very service anyway? Not only that, add the fact that the people that benefits from their payment don’t even know them and they don’t know them. Every time you pay your utilities, whether it is a light bill, a gas bill or a phone bill, someone they don’t know is collecting residual income from that payment.  Who do you think are the shareholders in the utility company? They got their start-up money from someone, not necessarily a bank. So every time you pay the utility company, their shareholders get paid. Over time, that money adds up.  I don’t know about you but I don’t have any shares in the utility company and neither does any of my friends or family members.

Just the other day a friend approached me about joining his multi-level marketing opportunity. Sadly I had to decline. Not because I didn't want to help him out but because it requires me to recruit others in order to be successful.  Taking into consideration my previous experience I already know that there is no one in my circle that I can count on to support my efforts. But that could very well be because they too don’t have anyone who will commit to supporting them and so on and so forth.  Until we as a race commit to supporting our own individually/collectively and more of us start owing some stuff instead of settling for just holding a job, we may very well never see the level of success that we as a people have the potential to achieve. It’s more than just me. It’s more than just you. It’s about all of us. I’m just saying - I got issues.  What about you?)i(
